Manufacturing only from
sustainable timber
Littlethorpe is a
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified company.
Our hardwood is
imported directly from well managed forests, which must adhere to strict
rules and guide lines. We are audited regularly to ensure compliance
with the stringent regulations set by the FSC, making sure the origin of
all our hardwood is totally accountable.
By
buying hardwood shelters from an FSC accredited organisation, you are
helping to preserve the future of the world’s forests by making sure the
forests are properly maintained. Manufacturing steel or aluminium
shelters requires the use of vast amounts of energy; even recycling
metal requires almost as much power as new smelting. Mining and smelting
can cause environmental damage, timber absorbs carbon as it grows, and
it looks pretty good too.
Products made
from timber have a lower carbon footprint than similar products made
from metal.
It is our
intention to keep the naturally absorbed carbon that is in the timber we
buy locked into the timber for as long as possible by producing products
that have a very long life span, to assist in this we back our products
up with a maintenance plan and after care.
The
decorative stains we use are, for environmental reasons, all water
based.
Littlethorpe, as
an environmentally aware company has a policy of reducing waste as far
as possible, most waste that is unavoidably produced is converted to a
secondary use and so becomes a reusable bi-product.
We are replacing
our light bulbs with low energy ones.
We try and
optimise our delivery vehicles to avoid running half empty Lorries or
making unnecessary journeys. We prefer to see local contractors used
for ground works to avoid unnecessary mileage. We shut our computers
down at night; leaving electrical goods on standby wastes energy.
