Research

Littlethorpe bus shelter

Our client, a large south eastern County Council, researched all the major manufactures bus shelter products with a view to offering a limited range of shelters to their parishes with a grant assisted scheme. The County Council wanted to improve the visually appearance and enhance its rural shelter identity with shelters that reflect the rural idyll; however, the final purchase decision remained a local parish matter. The County Council surveyed over 300 parish councils (Urban & Rural) to find out what their transport needs actually were, as a result of this survey Littlethorpe was selected by the Parish Councils as a preferred suppler of wooden shelters.

Result

The preferences of the parishes were conclusive; Littlethorpe shelters came out the clear favourite where timber was the preferred option and a particular range of shelters from another manufacturer preferred as "the metal option". This is seen as surprising, with so much choice, for there to be such a clear preference.

Over a period of several years the parishes, able to choose between metal and hardwood bus shelters have chosen overwhelmingly to install Littlethorpe shelters; 95% of shelters installed in the parishes (both urban & rural) under the grant assisted purchase scheme are Littlethorpe's hardwood shelters. The grant aided scheme has proven to be very successful for the County Council, with some parish councils being able to replace or install shelters at all their bus stops over the past few years.

They continue to grow in popularity.
